Dickson Family Thanksgiving

This year we decided to go with the Southern tradition of frying the turkey. Last year we were in Texas with Rushell and Jeff where we first had a turkey that had been fried. So we brought the tradition home to the great state of Washington.

Although how many Dickson men does it take to fry a turkey?

Maybe some of you do not know but it really only takes a couple of hours to cook a good sized turkey. Unlike in the south where it is usually warm on Thanksgiving, it was maybe 45 degrees here in Washington. But soon everyone had to have a look as to how this process works. Although the old proverb "A watch pot never boils" had some of us almost wanting to bring it in to the oven. Just like a camp fire brings people to huddle around so does a turkey frying pot. We did not however sing Kumbiyaa!! Is that how you spell that? Any way the day was very nice but cold but at least is was not raining.

The turkey was finally ready and so was the rest of the meal. For those of you who have never had a turkey cooked this way you are really missing out on an excellant bird. The skin is crispy and the inside, even the light meat is moist and tender. Everyone should think of fixing their turkey this way next year.

So we sat down and ate till we could not eat anymore. We really had a wonderful time and hope that all of you did as well.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

We leave for Cobo tomorrow so stay tuned for the next group of pictures!
